HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., March 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Adam & Eve and adameve.com, America’s most trusted source for adult products, are back this month with results from their all-new annual sex survey. This month, the sex-positive company asked over 1000 adults if they had ever felt coerced into having sex with someone, and the results may surprise you!
Coercion, or the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats, is a manipulation tactic used all too often when it comes to sex. In fact, when surveyed, 60% of the respondents said they had felt coerced into sex at some point. Of these, nearly 40% of those polled (33% of the males and 51% of the females) said they had been verbally coerced into having sex, while 20% (22% of the females and 19% of the males) said they had been physically coerced. Another 40% said they had never felt coerced into sex.
“Sexual coercion is a form of sexual abuse that involves using pressure, manipulation or threats to push someone into engaging in unwanted sexual activity,” says Dr. Jenni Skyler, PhD, LMFT, C-PST, and resident sexologist at Adam & Eve. “It can look like love bombing, lies, isolation, cultural abuse or forcing drugs or alcohol on someone to have sex against their will. In a healthy relationship, both partners feel comfortable with the level of sexual activity at any given time.”
“For over 50 years, Adam & Eve has provided a variety of toys and accessories for cheerfully consenting adults. Adam & Eve encourages adults to celebrate their sexuality within their own comfort levels and are happy to offer enhancements for any relationship at any stage,” says Chad Davis, Director of Marketing for Adam & Eve.
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party survey company, of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
