HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., April 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Adam & Eve and adameve.com, America’s most trusted source for adult products, are back this month with results from their all-new annual sex survey. This month, the sex-positive company follows up on their earlier question of sexual coercion by asking if those who had been coerced had told anyone. And their responses may surprise you.
While nearly 60% of those polled said they had been the subject of sexual coercion (the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats) at some point in their lives, only 62% ever told anyone. Nearly 45% (53% of the males and 35% of the females, told a friend. Another 10% (7% of the males and 13% of the females) told a parent. And nearly 7% (10% of the males and 4% of the females) reported the incident to authorities. Nearly 39% didn’t tell anyone.
Dr. Jenni Skyler, PhD, LMFT, C-PST, and resident sexologist at Adam & Eve, finds these numbers disappointing but accurate. “Unfortunately, sexual coercion – or sexual abuse that involves using pressure, manipulation or threats to push someone into engaging in unwanted sexual activity – is all too common. Many victims feel they will be blamed, or no one will believe them. It’s important to remember that sexual coercion is a type of sexual assault, and no one should ever feel pressured to do anything against their will. In a healthy relationship, both partners feel comfortable with the level of sexual activity at any given time.”
